Fun Boy Three - 1999 [1982] - Fame [192k]

Fun Boy Three debut album by the band of the same name, consisting of three ex-members of The Specials.

It was released in 1982. In 1999 it was re-released as Fame

Allmusic; Besides a new title and a reshuffled song order, this EMI CD reissue of Fun Boy Three's eponymous 1982 debut stays true to the original. And if this gives a new crop of listeners a chance to hear one of the most incredible and distinct releases of the '80s, then this is very good thing. While extra tracks certainly would have been nice, the now digitally enhanced album sides should still enthrall even the most crusty of FB3 veterans. Some fine guest spots by Bananarama aside, song highlights include such Halloween-issue, Afro-percussion classics as "Faith, Hope, and Charity," "The Lunatics (Have Taken Over the Asylum)," and "The Telephone Always Rings." Combining eerie harmonies, primitive drum beats, and minimalist production — not to mention Terry Hall 's wistful wail and Neville Staples’ ganja-infused drone — FB3 created a timeless album amongst the frost and shine of new wave’s ascendancy

Track list;

01 - Sanctuary

02 - Way On Down

03 - The Lunatics Have Taken Over The Asylum

04 - Life In General (Lewe In Algemeen)

Buggles - 1981 - Adventures In Modern Recording [200+vbr]

On request

It wasn't surprising that the Buggles' second release, Adventures in Modern Recording, didn't meet the expectations that 1980's internationally successful The Age of Plastic set. Both Horn

and Downes had been working on several outside projects, including Yes' 1980 release Drama, which severely limited their time, and for the most part, Adventures was a Trevor Horn solo project; Geoff Downes only appears on three tracks. However, many of the criticisms leveled against this outing were unfounded and there is still much to like [Allmusic]

This is a CD release with 2 bonus tracks

Kim Wilde - 1981 - Kim Wilde [192k]

No doubt many have heard Kim Wilde searching for the beat with "Kids in America," but know now that she finds it, thus the rest of this sterling debut comes dangerously close in quality to that killer kickoff. The second cut, "Water on Glass," follows the sound from the wild streets to Wilde's brain, maintaining a high level of exuberant class. Weird staccato runs down the streets of "Our Town," while "Everything We Know" chills into an icy groove. Wilde only wants to be free in "Young Heroes," and by side two's single, "Chequered Love," she gives permission to touch her and do anything (surprising, considering her pro-pop dad and brother wrote the whole LP). Hard guitars and xylophones get physical, until horns and ska skip into "2-6-5-8-0"; by this point in the record, Wilde can pull off anything she wants, and ends up sounding like a No Doubt B-side. "You'll Never Be So Wrong" mellows the turgid tempo but not the precise passion, and she just plain gets upset in "Falling Out." From the womb to the end of "Tuning in Turning On," Kim Wilde is one excellent inaugural, one excellent chapter in the evolution of Hi-NRG, and one excellent slab everyone should own. [Allmusic]

My favourite song of this album is track 06 - Chequered Love

Track list;

01 - Water on Glass

02 - Our Town

03 - Everything We Know

04 - Young Heroes

Plastic Bertrand - 1978 - Plastic Bertrand An 1 [192k]

Plastic Bertrand (real name Roger Jouret) was born on 24 February 1958 in Brussels, Belgium. He had a massive hit in 1977 with "Ca Plane Pour Moi" and probably remains one of the most famous Belgians to this date even though he has now disappeared into obscurity.

He started out as a drummer in a band called the 'Bisons'. Later, while at college in 1976-77, Roger began working at a record shop to earn some extra cash. At the same time he formed the band 'Hubble Bubble' which was a very early take on Punk Rock. Although this was not what you would call a successful band, one of the final gigs caught the eye of record producer Lou Derijk.

From October 1977 onwards, Roger called himself Plastic Bertrand and was having worldwide success with his single "Ca Plane Pour Moi" (the second ever French language single in the Billboard Top 100, where it climbed up to number 39).

By 1978, Plastic was a star with a sex, drugs and rock n' roll lifestyle. In a Cannes hotel he set fire to the curtains and in a New York establishment he broke everything in his room with an axe, before throwing it all out the window. In 1979 he also had a minor hit with "Tout petit la planète".

Track list;

01 - Le petit tortillard

02 - Bambino

03 - Naif song

Buggles - 1979 - The Age of Plastic [192k]

As the answer to the trivia question "What was the first act ever played on MTV?," the Buggles assured their place in pop music history. Vocalist and bassist Trevor Horn and keyboardist Geoff Downes formed the electro-pop duo in England in 1979 after meeting two years prior as session musicians. Their first single, "Video Killed the Radio Star," hit number one in the U.K. in late 1979; when MTV went on the air in 1981, the prophetically-titled record's video was the first ever broadcast on the fledgling cable network

Nina Hagen - 1978 - Nina Hagen Band [256k]

Nina Hagen, the mother of punk…

In East Germany, she performed with the band Automobil, becoming one of the country's best-known young stars. Her most famous song from the early part of her career was "Du hast den Farbfilm vergessen" (You Forgot the Color Film) in 1974. However, her musical career in East Germany was cut short when she and her mother left the country in 1976, following the expulsion of her stepfather Wolf Biermann. Read more

Vagtazo Halottkemek - Orias Ter (Giant Space)! (2000)

Classix Nouveaux - 1983 – Secret [320vbr]

Classix Nouveaux was one of the first new romantic acts in England. Although Classix Nouveaux's more guitar-heavy sound separated them from the mostly synthetic rhythms of Japan and Ultravox, the group's appetite for stylish fashion and danceable keyboards had them quickly associated with the new romantic movement. Vagtazo Halottkemek - Jumping Out The World-Instinct (1991)

Known to the English-speaking world as the Galloping Coroners, this is some seriously bludgeoning avant-noise psych-punk from Hungary.  The singer never stops wailing and bellowing futilely into a wall of dark plate reverb, and the distorted/chorus effect on the guitars is stolen straight from Fields of the Nephilim- although in this context there's none of that precise and repetitive gotharpeggiation... just thick chords and post-Sonny Sharrock axe-skronk of doom.  The long crazy echo-chamber industrial whistle(?) and tribal drums freakout doesn't help lighten the mood, either.

Asteroid B-612 Mirror Blues/Final Solution (Died Pretty)

"Despite the unusual heritage of this album - a French fan of Australian indie music  organised Sydney bands to cover early Sydney indie tunes over the internet - the result is fantastic.

A meld of the past and the present, you've got tracks by The Died Pretty, New Christs,  Lime Spiders and others covered by Asteroid B-612, Mother Jones and The Backsliders  (among others), most produced by Radio Birdman frontman Rob Younger.

For anyone who remembers the originals this is an incredible trip down memory lane -  you will, for example, be amazed just how clearly the lyrics of the Lime Spiders'  Slave Girl come back.

It's hard to pick highlights out of such a good line-up, but Louis Tillet and Charlie  Owen's version of the New Christs' Headin' South is suitably dark, while Asteroid B612  do things to Mirror Blues you can guarantee Died Pretty never imagined.

Available only on vinyl and only through the 'Net, try www.divinerites.com/dr_drr2.htm"

Scott Ellis - Daily Telegraph - Sydney - 23.4.98

"How many readers out there don't have at least one record on the Citadel label in their collection ?  The Screaming Tribesmen, the Lime Spiders, the Trilobites ? Hell, the New Christs, Deniz Tek and Died  Pretty are still releasing records on Citadel. Since it's inception in the early 80's, Citadel  has released some of the hippest rock'n'roll around, and all with a distinct Australian flavour.  "Storming the Citadel" sees a dozen bands paying tribute to this influencial label, each covering  a well known tune wich has come out on Citadel over the years. Plenty of highlights too, and not  just Detroit guitar freaks. Louis Tillett & Charlie Owen deliver a sombre version of the New Christs  'Headin' South', rich in emotion and stark quality. Asteroid B-612 pull off a stunning take of Died  Pretty's epic "Mirror Blues", rock solid as ever and complimented by the judicious use of organ.  Sydney's underrated Hunchbacks surprise with a bittersweet twang on "Virginia", a likeable romp  through the old Bamboos chestnut. Rock action ? Sheek the Shayk & his Royal Camels kick out the  jams on the Lipstick Killers "Liquor Fit", and Mother Jones deliver a spot-on rendition od the  Visitors "Sad TV". The songs on "Storming The Citadel" have been approached with a new freshness  and dynamics, making them all more or less irresistible tunes in their own right. "Storming the  Citadel" again confirms that great guitar rock'n'roll is alive and well in Australia. Out now  on double 10" vinyl by mail order only."

An unreleased recording from '91 by four Eugene, Oregon lads. The title pretty much says it all. 60's stlye punk like the best Miracle Workers stuff. This is Kevin's pre-Spider Babies band.

An explosion of Vox guitars, Fuzz Farfisa and a heavy dose of post-mortem sexual frustration ! 13 Savage Garage-Punk Rippers from haunted R'n'B pounders to girl-done-me-wrong punk stompers!!!!

These recordings date back to 1991. That was a black hole era for things that sounded like this...ESPECIALLY for freaky and creepy Fuzzed out Farifisa and Voxx shattering's that this band made. "The Sixties Return" movement of the mid 80's didn't do much other than give the Grateful Dead it's only ever chart hit and 95% of the bands that were attempting the sound had more in common with the Beatles and the Byrds than the Sonics and the Stones. This was recorded during the days of grunge and this is alot sounds more bitter and splattery. An unadulterated footslog of dirty noise and liquid lights. A member or two went on to form the Spider Babies and this was recorded by Fred Cole.

V.A. - Viva Los Angeles (volume 1)

Months ago Rainy Day Sponge (here in Lost-In-Tyme) posted Viva Los Angeles volume II compilation. Now it is time for the very rare first volume. This compilation was the corner stone of LA post punk scene. Very rare in our days, it was released by the Italian Viva label and was the label's first release. It covers a period of about 5 years (1980-1985) whereas the second volume covers the second period of the scene (1986-1989).

Honeymoon Killers - Les Tueurs De La Lune De Miel (1981)

Avant-garde Belgian new wave helmed by Marc Hollander (Cos, Aksak Maboul).  Inimitable Francophonic cutesy-ness experimentalism merged with occasional post-punk moodiness and cheerful (synth)pop moves.  The end result almost sounds like this could be a Japanese band, except for the French vocals.  Often catchy enough to get you bouncing around in your seat, and never dull.
